Member Highlights

Tom Murphy
President
Scenic City Signs

How many years in your current position/employer: 7 years (2003 was when I started the business)

Prior position:
Prior to starting Scenic City Signs I worked in a variety of positions in the chemical industry including Development, Production, Energy Purchasing, International and Domestic Marketing and Business Management including a 2 year assignment in Venezuela.

What was your first taste of real advertising (internship, first job, college class)?
I became aware of Advertising at an early age via underwear ads in the New York Times Sunday magazine and have been an avid follower ever since.  As the sign industry is directly related to helping businesses develop awareness of their company it was a natural fit to become involved in AAF.

Why do you participate in AAF?
Helping the club grow and prosper as a board member for the last few years has allowed me to meet a wide range of advertising professionals in a variety of Medias.  We’re all in advertising but a diverse group.  One of the highlights each year is being involved with the scholarship program we sponsor for area college students.  There are a lot of creative students out sure to give us new ideas in this industry in a few years!

Dr. Megan Moe
Assistant Professor of Communication
Lee University

How many years in your current position/employer: 6 years

Prior position:
Prior to teaching at Lee University, Moe taught communication courses at Cleveland State Community College. Before moving to Cleveland, Tenn., she taught at a number of colleges, including Niagara University and Daemon College in New York and West Chester University and Wilmington College in the Philadelphia area. Before settling on teaching as a career, she worked and volunteered in a variety of media. She has been a reporter in New Jersey; a market researcher in Delaware; a floor director and camera operator for "Personal Testimony," a Christian TV show in Buffalo, NY; a Public Service Announcement writer for the PBS station in San Francisco; and a drama coordinator for her New York church, writing, directing, and acting.

How many years involved in the advertising industry?
21 years

What was your first taste of real advertising (internship, first job, college class)?
She has a love of advertising that bloomed when she watched her father handle marketing and sales for Maytag in Southern California.  She became more enamored with it as he rose through the company and was thrilled when he won a Gold Effie for Advertising Effectiveness for the “Maytag Year 2000 Guarantee”.  Although she once dreamed of working in advertising herself, and perhaps winning an award, now Dr. Moe is motivated to teach students about advertising and giving them the tools so that they can win advertising awards someday.

Why do you participate in AAF?
She has been involved with AAF-Chattanooga for four years, has served as a Director for two years, and is presently serving as Secretary.  She believes that AAF-Chattanooga is a dynamic organization that links professionals together in a mutually beneficial relationship.

How many years involved in the advertising industry?
28 years

What was your first taste of real advertising (internship, first job, college class)?
Found out how much sales people made in advertising sales.

Why do you participate in AAF?
It’s been a wonderful career for me and one of the reasons I joined the Ad Federation was to give back to the industry that has supported me and my family. It is a great way to meet people (network) in the industry we work in.
